The aim of this course is a quick overview and orientation of the upper part of the airway, chest and abdomen in terms of the FAST protocol. Ultrasound examination of the upper airway includes an overview of the bottom of the oral cavity, the assessment of difficult intubation, examination of the larynx and trachea. Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (FAST) is a rapid bedside ultrasound examination performed as a screening test for identification of free intraperitoneal or pericardial fluid accumulation. In the context of traumatic injury, free fluid is usually due to hemorrhage and contributes to the assessment of the circulation. Performed in the trauma room by properly trained medical professionals, it allows the timely diagnosis of potentially life-threatening hemorrhage and is a decision-making tool to help determine the following steps in patient management. The extended FAST (eFAST) allows the examination of bothlungsby adding bilateral anterior thoracicsonographyto the FAST exam. Its goal is diagnosis of pleural effusion, pneumothorax and diffuse extravascular accumulation of fluid in the lungs. This course provides the course participant with basic heart ultrasound examination.
